Our Story

Our story begins with little miss Natalee.

She was our one and only.  And man did we LOVE her! and we wanted more just like her! But for some reason (Doctors call it secondary infertility), I couldn't get pregnant.

We tried.

and tried.

and I wanted kids in my home. lots and lots of kids.

My heart had been sparked to foster children a few years back, so I approached Johnny with the idea.  He was game!

Natalee was two years old... we were a few months into foster care, when I received a call for Shyanne & Hollie.

 Shyanne was 2 & 1/2

and Hollie was 13 months.

Johnny was in Arizona at a church conference for the week... but I couldn't say no! I went from 1 -to- 3 kids with just a few hours warning!  It was hard. But it was good too.

When we started foster care, I simply wanted to help kids... to make a difference while I waited for my next little one.  I wasn't opposed to the idea of adoption, I just wasn't planning on it.

I think God had other plans. :)

4 years I tried to get pregnant.

In the meantime, I had fallen in love with two little girls.  They were meant to be mine. They were meant to be ours.  And as the adoption preparation was in it's final stages...

I felt a twinge of nausea.

And then another.

And then another....

and 9 months later.... we met Brock Samuel!

And what a surprise those words were.... it's a BOY!!!!!! after 3 girls, Johnny was thrilled to have a son!

It was only in retrospect that I realized... Had I got pregnant right away... I never would have approached Johnny about foster care. And we wouldn't have our Shyanneee and Hollie May!  I didn't have a hard time getting pregnant with Natalee...

or Barton baby #5 - Connor Benjamin, who made his entrance into the world 19 months after Brock.

It was really just that God had Shyanne and Hollie for us... and infertility is what it took to bring them our way!

While my infertility journey may seem a lot less painful than most.... those 4 years felt long.  And every month when I realized I wasn't pregnant, yet. again.... I hurt... and I ached for that baby that would come. But those 4 years... brought such joy in Shyanne & Hollie... and soon after, Brock & Connor!

I wouldn't have it any other way!!

Coming February 2016, the final barton baby (#6) who will even out the boy/girl ratio in our family! Can't wait to meet our little man.

Same same same here. If it weren't for my infertility struggle, I wouldn't have fostered my 3 older kids. I had no intention of adopting, but God had big plans. During the adoption process I became pregnant with my now-youngest.

ooops!

I just realized that those "8 Month" pics I posted a few days ago weren't the 8 month pix.  They were more like one day shy of 7 month pictures... and THESE are the 8 month pictures! ha. o well... not much difference.  My editing was terrible in the 7 month pix - these are unedited, and probably for the best since it's not my strong suite! ha! (isn't this outfit from Nonnie ADORABLE!?) Love, love, love this one:    This is a typical face.  If he's not sucking in his lip, he's spitting and soaking his shirt with drool! (sorry so blurry - just had to remember this face!)
